My brother - Trip to St Andrews

Created by Janet Ann 5 years ago

Dearest Chris, it has taken me a long time to add some words here in a reflection of a moment in your life. This photo was the first I wanted to add. You had a real passion for golf. Even when a very young lad, you would go out at the weekends with Dad, Daniel and Uncle Brian to the pitch and putt at Farnham. I don't think anyone had a full set of irons/woods, I got to carry Dad's a few feet... - and Uncle Brian's No.3 wood's head flew off as he took a swipe and I remember saying, "Uncle, do you always play like this?" !

Ahh, the innocence of a young girl.

You went on to be a groundsman at Blackmoor where maybe you started another passion, looking after all things beautiful and love of nature. And the proudest man for his wonderful perfectly smooth greens!

When you came up to see us when we lived in Dunfermline (2003), you mentioned how you had always wanted to go to St , and so, on a bitterly cold and blustery October morning... :) we drove you over to the Old Links Golf Course and you got to sit on the Swilcan Bridge!

It was a lovely trip as I remember, before your flight home back South. We all took a wee walk to the beach with Johanna - she was just turned six years old so of course, the sea was always a wonder...

I recently went back that way in June this year with Johanna as she approached her 21st year. We stood at the hotel and watched golfers all down by this bridge and I thought on you being there as many sat and posed... and then we wandered over to the beach to watch the waves and find shells.

I'm really glad we got to do this with you. It is a memory I will always cherish.

Thinking of you tonight with much love - Janet x
